Command Sergeant Major Griffin entered military service in the Army December 27, 1978 He reported for Basic Training and Advanced Individual Training at Fort Benning, Georgia.

Since completing Basic and Advanced Individual Training, he has served in a variety of assignments and positions culminating in his present assignment. His past assignments and positions include Infantryman 325th Airborne Infantry Regiment, Company Senior Medic E-325th Airborne Infantry Regiment, 82nd Airborne Division. Interrogator Advisor DET 2, GSC, 20th SFG (A); Chief Imagery Analyst DET 2, GSC, 20th SFG (A); Intelligence Analyst DET 2, GSC, 20th SFG (A); Intelligence Advisor; DET 2 GSC, 20th SFG (A); Senior Intelligence Sergeant DET 2, GSC, 20th SFG (A). G-2 Intelligence Operations Sergeant, 62nd Troop Command. Battalion Intelligence Sergeant 877th Engineer Battalion Mosul Iraq; Infantry Advisor Afghan National Army 203rd Corp; Sergeant-Major Alabama Pre-Mobilization Training Assistance Element. Command Sergeant Major 142nd Battlefield Surveillance Brigade, Command Sergeant Major, 226th Maneuver Enhancement Brigade, Command Sergeant Major Task Force Tarpon Kabul, Afghanistan. His current assignment is Command Sergeant Major 135th Expeditionary Sustainment Command

CSM Griffin has served in Iraqi Freedom, and twice to Operation Enduring Freedom.
