CW5 Max A. Dean

Chief Warrant Officer Five Max A. Dean assumed his duties as the State Command Chief Warrant Officer, Alabama January 9, 2011.  As The Command Chief Warrant Officer, he advises the Adjutant General on military affairs affecting the Warrant Officers of the Alabama Army National Guard.

CW5 Dean began his military career in 1984 as a unit supply specialist.  His first assignment was with Company D 279th Signal Battalion in Arab, Alabama.  In 1985, CW5 Dean entered the AGR program where he continues to serve as the Command Chief Warrant Officer.

In 1992 he was appointed as a Warrant Officer in the HQS 279th Signal Battalion as a Tactical Automated Network Manager.  He attended the Warrant Officer Candidate School at Fort Rucker, Alabama and returned to the 279th Signal Battalion to serve until being transferred to the HQS 142nd Signal Brigade in 2003.   In 2003, CW5 Dean was transferred to the HQS 711th Signal Battalion and assigned as the Battalion Property Book Officer.  In 2004 he deployed with the battalion to Iraq in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom II.  After completing a 15 month tour to Iraq, CW5 Dean returned to the 711th Signal Battalion where he was transferred to the 142nd Signal Brigade where he served until the units deactivation.  He was then assigned to the HQS 167th Theater Sustainment Command in March 2007 where he served until he current assignment as State Command Chief Warrant Officer.

CW5 Dean has a Bachelor’s of Business Administration and completed the Warrant Senior Staff Course.  He is a member of the United States Army Warrant Officers Association (USAWOA), Association of the United States Army (AUSA), National Guard Association of the United States (NGAUS), and the Association of the Quartermaster. 

He awards include the Meritorious Service Medal w/1OLC, Army Commendation Medal w/3 OLC, Army Achievement Medal w/2OLC, Army Good Conduct Medal w/2 BC, Reserve Component Achievement Medal w/1 Silver OLC, National Defense Medal w/1 OLC, Iraqi Campaign Medal, Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary Medal, Korean Defense Service Medal, Humanitarian Service Medal, Armed Forces Reserve Medal w/silver X device and M device and the Combat Action Badge.
